Josep Guinovart i Betran (Barcelona 1927-2007) was a painter, draftsman and engraver from Catalonia, Spain.
After studying at the Lonja School and the Fomento de Artes Decorativas in Barcelona, he received a grant in 1953 from the French Institute for a 5-month visit to Paris.
Upon his return from Barcelona and after a period of work in the sets of scenes and illustrations, he began in 1957 a decanting toward abstract art. His unconventional work integrates three-dimensional elements almost constantly.
In 1994, a museum dedicated to his work was created in Agramunt, the village where his mother was born and with whom he has always had ties.
Josep Guinovart died on December 12, 2007 of a heart attack.
