Masafumi

Yamamoto

Japanese

1947 -

Masafumi Yamamoto

Master Japanese engraver, Masafumi Yamamoto has numerous exhibitions around the world to his credit. Trained in architecture at the Institute of Technology in Chiba, Japan, he later studied engraving at the School of Applied Arts in Barcelona.

Yamamoto has produced numerous illustrated books with Yves Bonnefoy, Michel Butor, Kazunari Suzumura, Joan Brossa, Pere Gimferrer and many others. Yamamoto explores in his work the theme of nature with a subtle delicacy, highlighting the contrast of the objects with the background colors which serve to express a feeling of unreality.

In 1998, the Japanese Art Museum, Kushinaga Shunsen, organized a retrospective of his graphic work.
